Tyree 2005
Mount Tyree is the second highest mountain in Antarctica, rising to 15,918 feet (4,852 meters). It is situated in the Sentinel Range, north of Minnesota Glacier which forms the northern half of the Ellsworth Mountains. Tyree is a little over eight miles to the northwest of Vinson Massif, the highest peak on the continent at 16,077 feet (4,897m).

Mt. Tyree was discovered in 1958, and named for Rear Admiral David M. Tyree, commander of the U.S. Naval Support Force in Antarctica (April, 1959 to November, 1962).

The still unclimbed south face is 6,562 feet (2,000 meters), and the highest wall in Antarctica.

This November, Doug Stoup and Kristoffer Erickson will attempt an alpine route up the southeast face of Tyree.
